Applies to
ApplicationXtender Desktop 6.5, 7.0, 8.0, 16.x
ApplicationXtender for Office 6.51, 7.0
Summary
Are Click-to-Run Installations of Microsoft Office and Office 365 Supported with ApplicationXtender 7.0 and higher?
Retail versions of Microsoft Office and Office 365(subscription) feature Click-to-Run installation instead of the legacy MSI (Microsoft Installer) method used on Volume Licensing versions.
Users are unable to integrate ApplicationXtender for Office with ApplicationXtender when using Microsoft Office 365 or a Click-to-Run installation of Microsoft Office.
or
Users are unable to email from ApplicationXtender Document Manager because email option is grayed out; even though MAPI32 is enabled on the workstation and in the AppXtender configuration.
Cause
Click-to-Run installs of Microsoft Office are not supported with AppXtender at this time, since they are virtualized installs like Office 365, which does not allow ApplicationXtender to interface with the email functionality due to the application being in a "sandbox".
Also, ApplicationXtender for Office (AXO) is not able to access the virtualized Microsoft Office applications.
Click-to-Run is available for the following products from Office 365:
Office 365 ProPlus
Visio Pro for Office 365
Project Pro for Office 365
SharePoint Designer 2013
Lync 2013
Lync 2013 Basic
The products that are available to you depend on your Office 365 subscription.
Click-to-Run is also available for the following retail products:
Office Professional 2013
Office Home and Business 2013
Office Home and Student 2013
The same applies to retail versions of Office 2016 and Office 365 2016 programs.
These versions do not include a MSI install method since it is retail software and not available through Microsoft Volume Licensing.
Resolution
To determine whether you have Microsoft Office Click-to-Run installed on your computer in Microsoft Office, click the File tab and then click Help. If you see a Click-to-Run Product Updates section, then Click-to-Run is installed on your computer.
The workaround to email documents is to email them from ApplicationXtender Web Access .NET or install an MSI based version of Microsoft Office.
An MSI or disc install of Office Standard or Office Professional Plus would resolve the issue.
