Survey Properties

The Survey, each Survey Page and each Question have modifiable properties allowing the creator to be very specific in the design. The properties can be updated anytime during the creation process.

General Properties

The first entry indicates which control you are editing (Survey, Page or Question).

Enter a Survey title to appear on the form.

Enter a description if you want some information to appear under the title.

The Show/Hide Title is on by default. If the box is unchecked, the Survey name will be hidden.

When running a survey, the answers need to be completed before going to the next page which is cumbersome if you are studying layout choices. If you place the survey in read only mode, then you can travel between pages without entering any data.

If you do not want the survey to be run more than once locally, enter a cookie name and it will be created.

Logo

A logo can be added to the Survey. Enter the location of the logo image file, its position on the page and the width and height.

Navigation

The Navigation property allows you to place test on the Next and Previous buttons at the bottom of each page. Enter text most appropriate for the form usage.

Question

The question property sets parameters for adding questions to the survey. Properties cover question title location, whether and where you want to place a description.

The default setting for all questions involve a number followed by a period somewhere in the name. Even when you change the generic question name the number-period combination remains. If you do not want to have a numbering sequence change the Show question numbers property to Off.

The Question required symbol is whatever symbol you wish to show for questions you mark as required. The * is the standard symbol.

Enter values in the next property is you want some type of sequencing to appear in the survey.

Finally, if a respondent enters incorrect information as an answer to a question, where do you want the error message to appear.

Pages

The Pages property is where you can give a Page a name and add new pages and names as needed. You can also choose to show Page titles and Numbers.

Logic

Triggers can be created on the Survey level to produce events during survey completion. Choosing on of the above options opens the following properties.

In the example above, I chose a Rating question. I then need to choose what qualifier suits the situation and which rating is the operable choice. If needs change, the condition can be edited or removed and additional conditions can be added.

Data

If there are values for questions that are not visible on the survey, the Clear invisible values property will clear these values based on the choice made. The data will not be saved with the survey questions. if you choose “none”, the invisible data will be saved upon survey completion.

The Text Update Mode dictates when the test in the question is updated. It is either “onBlur” which is after the respondent moves to another question or “onTyping” which is while typing.

Navigation

If error checking is turned on, the error can be caught at different stages of the survey. The default is when the respondent clicks the button to move to the next page. You can change the setting to when the individual question response is completed or when the entire survey is completed.

Show on Completed

When the survey is completed, the respondent could be directed to a URL. If so, enter the URL to be redirected. Also, you could navigate to a URL based on a condition. This could be used in conjunction with the Timer property explained next. If the time expires and the survey is not yet complete, the respondent could be redirected to a thank you URL.

Timer

If the survey is to be completed in a given amount of time, enter the maximum time to finish either each page or the entire survey. Choose whether to show the timer or not and where the timer is located.
