Answer/Solution

Please consult the "Kofax Capture 11.x Administrator's Guide" beginning on page 37 for detailed guidance.

Index zones correspond to data required for index fields. Kofax Capture offers data capture capabilities via various automated recognition methods such as Kofax Advanced OCR, barcode recognition, among others.

To create a new index field zone, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Administration module and use the Scan/Import feature to input a high-quality sample page that will serve as the basis for the new index field zone.

  2. Navigate to the upper-right corner and click on 'Insert', then choose 'Index'.

  3. Outline the specific area for OCR by drawing a zone around the desired field. A dialog titled "Create Index Zone" will appear.

  4. From the drop-down menu, assign the zone to an existing index field.

  5. Select a Recognition Profile, such as "Kofax Advanced OCR Zonal", from the available options.

  6. Click the 'Edit' button, which will open the "Recognition Profiles" dialog.

  7. In the Recognition Profiles dialog, set the Mark Level to "General" and choose either the default "Medium" or "Low" from the drop-down menu as the desired accuracy level.

  8. Press the 'Advanced' button, then set "Normal" for Text Type and "Any" for Character Type.

  9. Under the Operation tab, opt for "Balance accuracy with performance" and confirm by clicking 'OK'.

  10. Save the new settings with a descriptive name by clicking the 'Save as' button. This recognition profile can be applied to multiple Batch Classes.

  11. Close the Recognition Profiles dialog and click on 'Test' to evaluate the OCR results. Ensure that the outcome is satisfactory and the confidence level is at 100%. Close the test window and click 'OK' to finalize the new Index zone.

  12. The newly created Index zone will appear as a vivid green rectangle around the selected text.

  13. Remember to publish the Batch Class once all modifications are complete.

  14. Conduct a trial run with a test batch to confirm the accuracy of the OCR for the Index field. If the results are suboptimal, return to the Recognition Profile, adjust the settings accordingly, and retest.

The steps outlined above provide a sample workflow for setting up an index field zone. Adjust these procedures to suit the specific needs and standards of your site. It's crucial to thoroughly test any new configurations before implementing them in a production environment.
